Bash Brothers - Life Lessons (Review)

Forming in 2016, new Swedish punk rockers Bash Brothers present to us their second ever release as a band. Along with "S/T" EP that was released February of this year, the band has two releases in 2017 under their belts.

Falling Down
Kicking off the album. we have a fast paced banger, really hyping you up. Setting the bsr high for the rest of the album. Great instrumental work from the band, melody is definitely present on this track.

A Part Of Me
Hitting just as hard as the first track, track number two brings the heat with some amazing riffing, and fantastic vocals. Definitely a great track to headbang to. At the very least it is hard to not nod your head to this track. Probably, my favorite track on the record.

Gone Forever
A pretty punk sounding riff opens up this track, this song in particular I can hear the emotion in the screaming backing vocals on the track adds the emotional connection to the listener which is great, having that connection with a listener whether it is live or through a record is extremely important and is presented throughout the whole album, this track in particular.

Just Like You
This song features John Harcus of PMX, not only a great feature but a great sounding track. This album started strong and is carrying it all the throughout so far. The feature of John Harcus from PMX was welcomed surprise to say the least.

Keeping Me Awake
Another appearance by John Harcus on the record, two features in a row. Considering features on punk albums are rare makes it all the more special, with the addition of John the two songs he is on have that extra boost.

Life Lessons
The title track from the album still has the fast paced, high energy sound to it, which is no surprise, I love how this album came out. A great sound that you can connect with and forget about your problems, and jump around to.

Suit Yourself
The record's seventh track features dual vocals for the hook which came out sounding great. Excellent riffing, drum work, the whole nine yards. Great track, great work on all members of the band, including John Harcus.

You Are Fading Away
A pretty straighyt forward and relatable track, mixing a relatable track with great sounding instrumental back is always a thumbs up for me, done to perfection is this case. This band has not failed to impress yet on this album. Nothing but good things to say about this one.

Spending My Time
The second to last track showcases the meaning of melodic hardcore in full effect. Yet another headbanger on this album, with spot on vocals yet again. All the energy has shown to follow through the whole record, which I love completely.

Immutable Change
Closing the album we have one last energetic track, with a punk riff, a great way to end the album. As I expected, no power/energy lost. Started strong and ended strong.

Conclusion:
A solid release from a relatively new band, all 10 tracks were great. Definitely can't wait to hear more from Bash Brothers. The feature of PMX's John Harcus was a welcomed surprise. This band is on the track to big things in the future that is for sure.

Final Score: ★★★

No Quarter - Freedom (Review)

Austrailian punk band No Quarter are back with their first release in 7 years! Their last releasing being "Lodestar" which was released almost exactly 7 years ago at the time this review is being written.
Releasing via Melodic Punk Style Records "Freedom" proved to be worth the 7 year wait, with the album featuring 12 tracks spanning 37 minutes!

Freedom
The record opens up with a slower paced song, it exposes the singer's vocal range. The song picks up the pace and the melodic vocals continue, as the vocals pick up we get some sweet backup vocals even furthering the sense of melody within the track.

One Hundred Metres
A great riff opens up the albums second track carrying over all the melody from the opening song, great track with a snippet of audio from a newscast from the day of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in NYC, evoking a sense of sadness in rememberance of the events of that day.

Abandon Ship This Fucker's Sinking
This song in my opinion has more of melodic metal-ish kind of sound (which is great). The message in this one is simple. S.O.S, the ship is sinking, grab the women and children first and let's get off the sinking ship.

The Air Up There
Sick guitar work on this track, with the unorthodox opening riff setting the tone for the track, as it were any surprise there is no shortage of melody is one. Complete with a heart pounding drum beat this track is a total banger.

Second Rate
Right off the bat with this song I get major Pennywise vibes. The vocals on this track sound great, solid and straight to the point. I love tracks that are fast and to the point. My favorite track of the album.

I.K.Y
Almost every album has a track that makes you think to yourself "this song would be perfect in a Tony Hawk game", this is that song. It has a memorable hook and melodic vocals, what more could you want?

Bottle Tops And Jameson Shots
The ultimate party song, the "thank god it's the weekend" kind of song. A fun energetic track, where getting fucked up is the main idea. I like how closer to the end background chatter and cheering is added in with the music making for a real party kind of feeling.

Metrofucks
The shortest track on the album is another one of my favorite tracks, I love the guitar sound on this one, where you can hear the absolute shredding that is going, also really good bass line on this one, I love it. Second Rate and this track are both in the lead for best track on the record.

KFC
A track named after one of my least favorite fast food places, opening with a cashier of a KFC telling a customer that the McChicken can "eat a dick" after the customer mistook the KFC for McDonald's is probably one of my favorite intros to a song ever, I legit had a chcukle at that. It is also a great track about being in the working class. A very relatable track.

The Devil's Greatest Trick Was Convincing The World He Didn't Exist
Great drum work to open up the track, yet another banger on the record and as if the title wasn't straight forward enough the song tells you that the devil's greatest trick was convincing the world he didn't exist, but these guys cannot be tricked. Lyrically my favorite track on the album.

The Biblical Retelling Of Vesa The Finnish Chuck Norris
Second to last track of the album brings us a song full of great insrumental work, the great vocals still continue on without a doubt. This track begs the question of "have you?" making for some interesting questions such as "have you ever seen a man who can ski uphill?" Great song all around.

Lost Boyz 4 Eva
Last track of the record, memorable hook, great way to end the record. Certainly ending on a high note, all throughout the album there was energy, melody, awesome lyrics, pretty much everything you would want an album to have, this track is no different with delivery on all of those things with one last solid track.

Conclusion:
It was great to be able to review this album and to hear a new full length from No Quarter. As I stated earlier it has been a few years short of a decade since we have had a release from this band, with the amount of material we got for our wait it was worth it. Now let's hope we hear from No Quarter again very soon, maybe an EP in 2018?

Final Score: ★★★★✩

Force Events! - Force Events! (Review)

Belarussian punk band Force Events! totally pack a punch on their latest release. Although I do not nderstand their language, the sweet sound of punk rock is something that we all could understand regardless of language this whole album flows really well together, it's a smooth listen.

Отрешение / Тонуть или плыть (Sink Or Swim)
Starting off the album of a heavy note, this track is really good with the vocals oozing emotion as you can hear in the tone of voice the singer has while singing the song, this tarck also changes tempo a few times which adds to the overall great sound of the track. Perfect opening to the album.

Двойные стандарты (Double Standards)
With no emotion lost, the second track hits just as hard as the first one did. The guitar sound had a metal-ish tone for a second at a few points in the song in my opinion. According to the lyrics this is a politically charged track aimed at capitalism. It includes lyrics based on a politician's view of punks, with lyrics like "you will graduate institute and shave your mohawk". This song is a social commentary on how the punk scene was always viewed.

Преступление против человечества (Crime Against Humanity)
Another politically charged track, this one comments on how peace and prosperity is not in the  interest of those in power, and how they view our lives as nothing. Which in most cases is true in these past few years specifically, if anyone has watched the news lately which everyone does mostly all we hear about is violence in all different places in the world. This song makes that really clear for those don't grasp the concept.

Форсировать события (Force Events!)
Very heavy drum work, another song that has a really metal-ish tone at sometimes. This track focuses on the fact that we cannot wait for someone to make our choices for us, we have to get up and control things for ourselves because we don't know what is around the corner waiting for us or what to expect tomorrow.

Farewell (American Nightmare cover)
A great cover sounding almost identical to the original except for the languages being spoken in each version. The band did a fantastic job on this cover.

Никогда! Ничего! (How Many Songs Were Sung)
This track which is the shortest on the record, calls out the police and the bullshit laws they enforce, and how the elite stays elite and the everyone else can eat shit. A powerful and relevant message with the worlds's current state as of the past few years in particular.

Обывательский ад (Philistine Hell)
Society can ruin a person's potential to be different as told by this song, how society can take someone like a punk and neuter them like a cat rendering them a bland guy, just like eveyone else. Making references to someone removing all there tattoos this track does a great job at highlighting the fact that society can take someone that is different and turn them into nothing.

Борьба продолжается (The Struggle Continues)
The last track on the record, just as heavy and energetic as the first packs one last punch, with another track telling it how it is in this life with lyrics like "you won't change as hard as you will try" which for most people is sad but true. The album started and ended on a heavy note, I love it.

Conclusion:
I really didn't know much about these rad dudes before this review but I'm stoked I found out about them, any punk rocker would appreciate this album because in my personally opinion everything about the record is solid, down to the cover art. All the songs are energetic and bring about fun vibes. I'm a bit bummed that I can't really understand what they're because the album is Belarussian.
Commenting on the structure of the songs would be a lot easier. The songs are not too short, or too long. Songs being too long could ruin a great album if there is no structure in the songs, luckily that is not the case here. I cannot wait to hear more from Force Events, this album was a great first impression on me from them. This record has a great sound. I recommend to any fan of the genre.

69enfermos - A Place To Call Home (Review)

Legendary skate punkers 69enfermos are back with their first full length release since 2015's "Beyond Borders". "A Place To Call Home" was released via Morning Wood Records back in July. Skate punk is my weakness, and this album delivers on that. I am beyond stoked to have the opportunity to review this record. Forming in 1995, "A Place To Call Home" is representative of the fact that the band have not lost their touch.

The Lie
Kicking off the album on a good note, The Lie starts off fast and energetic. The track starts off with a killer bass line, Fantastic way to set the tone for the record. It brings the sound that makes you feel like a teenager again, assisting in keeping the spirit.

Attitude
The second track of the record brings us another energy/melody packed track detailing that you cannot choose when and where you were born, but if we move past our indifferences we as a whole can make the world a better place.

Rejected
Including a great riff, and some stellar drum work track 3 of "A Place To Call Home". This song has a deeper meaning as it tackles the issue of people being labeled by color and race and the effects that these labels have on those that they are placed on.

A Place To Call Home
The album's title track explains how things are not always as they seem in photos, while certain things are glorified and others are completely looked over. While most look at South America as a vacation spot for the summer, the media sometimes becomes hung up on that fact and disregards that it is an actually home to many people.

Be Smart Don't Play The Fool
A track that gives out the message to not always walk in the straight line they want you to walk in, to not follow the status quo. It tells us that we have to wake up and control our own lives, and no one can help you but you. "We are here for something greater than to pay bills and die".

Not The Answer
Just about as skate punk as it gets, bringing the melody and fast paced beat. This track who calls out those who thinks the world is against them for no reason. It has a really powerful message because too many people fall victim to the shitty mindset that no one likes them. The song talks about how life is not that bad, and how choosing the right group of people can make a huge difference in your life.

One More Day
A track we all could relate to, a song about missing someone after a break up. The feeling of sorrow after splitting up with a partner is a feeling we have all felt at one point or another. This song says what we all think during a break up. So not only does this track have relatable lyrics but an amazing riff as well, One More Day has it all!

On My Own
Moving forward with life starts with making the right choices, choices that will benefit you in the long run even if they do not make the most sense now, according to the song. The lyrics are 100% spot on and accurate, sometimes you have to sit back and think about what is right for you.

For You To Know
The shortest song on the album, clocking in at 23 seconds keeps the message short and sweet. A song dedicated to that somone special in your life that brightens up your day and makes you smile.

We
Melodic and fast, two of my most favorite characteristics of music combined with the tale of falling for someone you once believed, only to find out everything they said to you was a lie. Truly a bitter sweet track.

In The Nineties
The final track on "A Place To Home" is a nostalgia trip, as we look back on the 90s. This track makes reference to skateboarding and listening to the bands on Fat Wreck Chords at the time. A true nostalgia bomb including references to Mike Carroll (Pro Skater) and the skateboard brand Plan B. It really makes you wish you were there.

Conclusion:
Another great release from 69enfermos, the album has left me satisfied. Although, I cannot wait to hear more out of the band hopefully in the near future. Only time will tell when we will hear another full length from the band but "A Place To Call Home" delivered on everything we wanted.

Final Score: ★★★★★

Suntrace - Skate Fast Eat Ass (Review)

Suntrace are a skate punk band in the purest form, as this is the first I have ever heard from them they sure have made a lasting impression on me with this album. I cannot wait to hear more from these guys in the future.

For You
The album opens up with a track that sounds like it belongs in a Tony Hawk game. This track reminds me a lot of Millencolin, so much melody in this track, it really packs a punch. An amazing start to the album.

Possessions
Tracks like this one are the best in my opinion, not too slow, not too fast. Although, it picks up towards the end, the riffs and drum work are reminiscent of The Ataris. Also a great use of the "woah, ohs".

Polonium
This track features a ska-esc tone. Outside of skate punk, ska is one of my favorite subgenre of punk. The band somehow captures a sound of ska/skate punk in one track. Making Polonium my favorite track so far on the album.

Sugarcoated
Right off the bat, the track starts strong full of that skate punk, melodic goodness, every track has melody and that is a great thing. This track in particular makes me feel happy but happy in the way that you can feel butterflies in your stomach and I'm not sure exactly why, but it's awesome!

Idiotpond
The record's 5th track is a complete banger, the kind of song that makes you wanna jump around no matter where you are. When I hear this track I can't help but to sing along. With an amazing riff, and fast paced drums it makes for a perfect track.

Mr. T
A track named after one of the most iconic public figures of the 80s. Brings forth another great track, that blends punk and a tiny pinch of ska toward the end. I truly love the sound of this album.

Siamese
One of the slower paced tracks of the album, it acts as a bit of a refresher, as a change in tempo after the first 6 tracks being fast paced. I like when album's change pace a bit, it makes for more of a diverse listen.

Burden
What a way to close this record, a song about a girl! Something all of us could relate to. Nothing makes a song better than being able to relate to the subject matter. It brings us all closer together with the unity of punk rock!

Conclusion:
With about 2 and a half months left in 2017, "Skate Fast Eat Ass"
may be my favorite album of the year. Suntrace are a perfect of example of "defending skate punk". As I stated earlier, I cannot wait to hear more from Suntrace. Well until then, "Skate Fast Eat Ass" will be released on November 13th via Melodic Punk Style Records.

Final Score: ★★★★★

Propagandhi - Victory Lap (Deluxe Edition) (Review)

Canadian punk rockers Propagandhi are back with their latest full length album titled "Victory Lap" released on September 29th via Epitaph Records. "Victory Lap" is their first full length release since 2012's "Failed States".
"Victory Lap" is being met with some negativity from long time Propagandhi fans, I personally love the touch of metal in the album. I love it when bands can play more than one style, and Propagandhi are putting their versatility on full display on this record. Even if you're not a huge fan of the sound of this one but a fan of the band this album totally deserves respect.
So much can be said about the styling of this album, the melodic metal/punk hybrid sound provides a great 16 track album. If i had to pick a genre for this album, I would probably classify it as metal, although some may disagree.

Victory Lap
The title track from the record starts off the album with a bang. I believe this track is about a man's morality and happiness in life, the mention to Russian philosopher Ayn Rand. She is known for her philosophical system of Objectivism which in short means that happiness should be the purpose of one's life.

Comply / Resist
A track in the voice of Christopher Hitchens, an Anglo-American author. This track reflects on Hitchens thoughts and ideas on how North America was colonized, mainly mocking his contempt for indigenous people.

Cop Just Out Of Frame
This track uses the action Quảng Đức (a monk who famously burned himself to death) as a critique on people who sacrifices a lot but in reality does nothing to change things in the world.

When All Your Fears Collide
I can't help but to think this song is about the daily struggles of anxiety, lyrics like "When all is said and done, they're going to tear you apart, you feel yourself corroding on the inside" confirms my assumption, I believe. I can relate to that lyric because of my ongoing case of anxiety.

Letters To A Young Anus
A politically charged track, that makes mention to the New Democratic Party, which is a popular political party in Propagandhi's home country of Canada. This song helps with citing the irony of a leftist voting for the NDP despite their recent actions, as they have been doing the opposite of the party's principles.

Lower Order (A Good Laugh)
This track details Chris' observance of animal's suffering and why he is a vegan. The story is told through two personal expiriences of seeing animal's suffer. The song calls out hunting for sport and factory farms.

Failed Imagineer
A personal favorite track for me. The song employs the story of a man when the war ended, with the story being told as two people sit down to have a drink together. The track really captures the story and tell's it quite well and I love the sense of imagery, the feeling as if you can visualize the story.

Call Before You Dig
Another track on the album that switches tempo, Call Before You Dig goes from slow and melodic to fast and heavy on the drop of a dime. With a great riff and amazing drum work. This is one of the best songs on the album.

Nigredo
The 9th track on the album features a slow opening and a steady paced melody, with occasional shredding from the guitar. It really encompasses the range of talent from all the members of the band. It isn't my most favorite song on the album but there is not really anything bad to say about it.

In Flagrante Delicto
The opening of this track reminds me a lot of Metallica, as the song progresses you can hear some influence of bands like Metallica. Very melodic vocal range for this track, mixed with the killer bass line makes In Flagrante Delicto my favorite track of the album.

Tartuffe
A complete banger of a track, opens strongs and keeps the energy throughout the song. Very consistant riff, it really shows that the band has returned to their metal roots but also still have the punk sound loved by their fans.

Adventures In Zoochosis
This track has a long intro before the song itself starts, the song contains a slower pace, with a strong message.

Wishing
Probably one of the punkest sounding songs on the record, complete with a double time drum sound. Another track with amazing guitar shredding.

Beyond
This is a pretty solid way to start ending an album, the album's 14th track which is included in the deluxe edition, it kinda reminds me of Strung Out during certain parts because of the vocals.

Technocracy
This opens up with a metal based intro, as we progress in the track the metal vibes are there, as well as some punk too, leaving us with a perfect metal punk hybrid.

Laughing Stock
A great way to end the album, they end it on a high note. This track is a bonus and you can find it here on the blog.

Conclusion:
Propagandhi have not failed to impress with their latest release, Victory Lap is great entry
into their discography. Everyone seems to feel different about this album which is natural but I personally think that this change of sound is great. It's not even like their sound changed drastically since Failed States came out in 2012. Too many people expect the sound from How To Clean Everything which was released in 1993.
I don't think the album deserved the negative feed back based on the fact
that band doesn't sound like how they sounded almost 25 years ago. Victory Lap is a solid album and agreat listen for anyone, whether they prefer punk or metal because the album provides both sounds.

Final Score:
 ★★★★
